London South Bank University (LSBU) received Tianjin Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning Delegation in Caxton House on 23rd March 2016.
LSBU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Phoenix, warmly welcomed the delegation led by Mr HEI Junjie, Director General of Tianjin Central Hospital of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. After introduction to LSBU and the School of Health and Social Care (HSC) and introduction to Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM), collaboration opportunities were discussed, followed by introduction to LSBU midwifery curriculum. China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) representatives were also present in the morning session.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited HSC’s Children’s Skills Lab, Critical Care Lab and the state-of-the-art Simulation Suite, where they observed three stimulation examples and listened to how the students felt about their experiences in the suite. The delegates were positively impressed the unique way of teaching. After the visit, details on collaboration were discussed and agreed on.
Professor Paul Ivey, Pro Vice-Chancellor of LSBU, emphasised the importance of language and culture in sustaining business relations. Executive Director of CITCM Professor Yinong Xu remarked, “CITCM is dedicated to facilitating the university’s constructive engagement with Chinese universities, institutions and enterprises.” Mr HEI, head of the Delegation expressed his gratitude to LSBU’s hospitality and said that the whole day’s visit had been inspirational and productive. The day’s event marked the beginning of a long-term collaborative relationship.
