Confucius Wellbeing and Engagement Quarter on LSBU Open Day
Confucius Institute for TCM (CITCM) proactively participated London South Bank University’s Open Day on Saturday 5 October along with various schools and other services. The Confucius Wellbeing and Engagement Quarter attracted hundreds of people who enjoyed various activities and learned about their services.
The Confucius Quarter was beautifully festooned with colourful and charming lanterns, Chinese knots, Peking opera masks, exquisite kites, paper cuttings, origami and Chinese calligraphy works, as well as figurines with acupoints and meridians. Many potential students, parents, and even LSBU staff members were immediately attracted by the Confucius Quarter’s festive decorations, and ended up making lotus, cranes, boats and hearts with paper and writing Chinese characters with a writing brush. The free acupressure / massage sessions were most popular, with people queuing up half an hour in advance for their 5-minute go. Those who had it were deeply impressed with it to such an extent that they brought back their family and friends to enjoy the relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Some attendees of Mandarin taster classes purposefully stopped by and thanked the staff members in Chinese sentences they had just learnt. Some potential candidates were not only fascinated with CITCM’s offers to LSBU students (group classes at half price and Caxton House Acupuncture at an internal rate), but also inspired by the wide range of events in wellbeing, culture, language, and art, so much that they considered seriously getting enrolled at LSBU.
Many other participants were also captivated with the CITCM’s services. One visitor with dyslexia praised the stand’s colourful decorations as it made things easier for her; some others commented that CITCM is clearly an embodiment of LSBU value of inclusivity, equality, and diversity. CITCM staff members on-site all thoroughly enjoyed the Open Day, with one new teacher proclaiming: ‘This is the most exciting and rewarding day since I’ve joined LSBU!’
