London South Bank University’s Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) attended Fulham Primary School’s International Day at invitation and presented a Lantern Workshop on 18th May, 2015.
The Lantern Workshop starts at 9am. The CITCM teacher started with the introduction of cultural significance and historical origin of lanterns. She then demonstrated the process of assembling a lantern. After learning the assembling method, the students started making lanterns with curiosity and enthusiasm. Working in teams, they succeeded in making their own lanterns. The Chinese lanterns, which symbolise good luck and happiness, came to life in the students’ hands.
The Lantern Workshop was warmly welcomed by the teacher and students of Fulham Primary School. The hands-on cultural experience not only added meaning and fun to the International Day but also deepened the students’ understanding and fascination of Chinese culture.
