A round table discussion was held for U.K. Confucius Institute directors on Thursday 10th November at the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM). This discussion provided a total of 14 directors with the opportunity to openly contemplate and share their ideas and practices in a relaxed environment.
The day began with a welcome show from CITCM’s professional performance team; this created a very positive atmosphere upon which the conversations commenced. The first main point of discussion was possible opportunities for collaboration. A series of very exciting initiatives were discussed.
At lunch time the directors received well-being treatments from the CITCM doctors before the discussions commenced again in the afternoon. The afternoon session focused on identifying common operational issues which should be raised to Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters located in Beijing).
After the meeting Mr John Tasker, Director at Liverpool University CI, stated that it was ‘very useful… for CI Directors to share insights, ideas and experience in a friendly and informal environment’. He went on to express that ‘CITCM was a fantastic host!’
The Director from Bangor University Confucius Institute, Ms Yanjun Xin, was also very satisfied with the discussion. She thought that the meeting provided ‘such an advantageous face to face communication platform where CI Directors can share their ideas.' She explained how the directors 'studied from each other during the meeting and found some new methods which would be useful in our future works.'
Overall the day was a huge success and we are sure that the discussions will help to significantly enhance the operations of Confucius Institute’s in the UK.
