On the 17th June 2018, a Conference for the UK and Ireland Chinese Proficiency Test Centres was held at the Hilton Hotel, Euston. At the event four Confucius Institutes, including the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) were awarded ‘Chinese Proficiency Test Centre of the Year 2017’. This award was based upon the total number of candidates who sat exams at the centres.
At Chinese Proficiency Test centres candidates can take a series of exams designed to test the Mandarin proficiency of non-native speakers (all test centres are based at Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms). The exams include HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Levels 1-6, YCT (Youth Chinese Test) Level 1-4 and HSK(K) (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (Kouyu)), which asses the oral ability from beginner to advanced.
Last year a total number of 1,587 candidates took an HSK, YCT or HSK(K) exam at CITCM’s test center. This extraordinary figure resulted in us ranking No. 1 amongst all of the Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in the UK and Ireland. With 880 candidates already registered to participate in the YCT and HSK(K) exams this June, this year CITCM aims to surpass a total of 1,800 candidates, a figure which would allow us to retain our number 1 position.
Mr. Jing Hu, who helps to manage CITCM’S test center expressed that ‘the conference was a huge success and CITCM was very honoured to receive this award’.
