11 July 2011
CITCM launched dragon dance activity
As a part of series to celebrate Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) held the Chinese Dragon Dance activity with Holy Cross Primary School on 28th of June 2011. This is another activity following summer school with the theme of Chinese Dragon. All students and staff of Holy Cross Primary School spent a happy day with Chinese teachers from CITCM.
Holy Cross Primary School, one of the Confucius classes, has been keen to promote Chinese language and culture and gave full interests to Dragon Dance, as a traditional feature of Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Before the event, many students gathered round, shouting "Chinese Dragon" excitedly, and after the presentation, all of them can pronounce "Long" in Mandarin. Moreover, students related Chinese dragon with social life and enhance their environmental awareness and social responsibility.
The workshop was divided into two parts: the dragon dance and dragon painting, in which students had a lot of fun. Year-6 Students showed the team spirit when the dragon followed the pearl up and down beautifully. School teachers were grateful to CITCM for the students not only know Chinese traditional culture, but also improve their capabilities through dragon dance.
Dragon painting is brilliant as well. Students from nursery to year-6 all gave full play to imagination and creativity. They made their own Chinese dragons by different color and decorations. Finally, every class got a wonderful prize from CITCM for their excellent work.
Due to the joint effort between CITCM and Holy Cross Primary School, the dragon dance activity is end successfully. The program leader Alexis Donnelly from Holy Cross School mentioned "I wanted to send along my most sincere gratitude for a fantastic experience! I have heard some wonderful feedback from senior staff, the students, the teachers and the parents about what a wonderful day everyone had and what exceptional work was produced by the children. I myself am especially impressed by the dragon crafts activity. I thought it was a creative and dynamic team building experience which encouraged individual creativity but also encouraged mutual support and class bonding. Thank you again for you and your team's impressive planning and execution of a lovely day! I look forward to working with you all soon!"
