School Engagement

Since 2007 we have been working with primary and secondary schools in London, and due to the success of our efforts, we now have a number of longstanding partnerships. Our work in schools provides students with the unique opportunity to learn Mandarin and to participate in a diverse range of cultural activities. We hope that such active engagements will help students develop a strong sense of international awareness and cultural understanding.

Mr Kazi, Deputy Headmaster at Charterhouse

Over the last four years, we have been extremely fortunate to benefit from LSBU’s Mandarin teachers. Consistently, they have been exemplary in their classroom practice, inspiring novice and experienced language learners in their studies. In a busy boarding school such as ours, such is their commitment that they have thrown themselves into the life of our school, spending time with the pupils in a wide range of contexts and contributing enormously to our educational community.

Ms Waine, Headteacher at Portway Primary School

Two CI teachers have been working with us for a year. During that time both teachers have demonstrated that they are fully competent in planning and delivering lessons that have supported children from EYFS to Year 6 in developing confidence in Mandarin. Our parents were particularly enjoyed our class assemblies when children of all year groups were able to sing songs in Mandarin to a very proficient standard-very impressive! Our teachers have always shown themselves to be highly professional and a fantastic asset to the school. We are looking forward to our second year with our CI teachers.

Ms Trotman, Headteacher at Crowland Primary School

Our Mandarin teachers have been a great addition to our team, they have immersed themselves into school life and we value their contribution.

Mr Bensley, Head of Mandarin at The Petchey Academy

Ms Wang is now in her second year working at the Petchey Academy and has been recognised by all staff and students for her contribution towards the learning and celebrating of Mandarin language and culture. She helps with the teaching and designing of resources for KS3 and KS4 language lessons, whilst also supporting students succeed in both YCT and HSK examinations. Ms Wang is also responsible for running the weekly ‘Student of the Week’ celebration across all languages. She is a much cherished and indispensable part of the Petchey Languages team!

Dr Canning, Executive Headteacher at Tollgate Primary School

Teaching Mandarin has offered huge enrichment to our curriculum. Pupils are mastering a world language and are being inspired by the rich culture and creativity of China. Our parents are as excited as our pupils in the wealth of educational provision offered through the Confucius Institute.

Mr Djemali, Deputy Headteacher at Gladesmore Community School

I have been extremely impressed with the start of our two Mandarin teachers. They are respectful, courteous and always conduct themselves with the utmost decorum. They have spent the first two weeks observing various lessons of differing subject areas and they have also shadowed many students from differing year groups. During this time they have been able to absorb various different teaching styles and learning practises. Currently they have been planning and discussing matters with the head of languages in order to be fully prepared to deliver Mandarin to groups at various levels; beginner, G.C.S.E and AS LEVELS. They have given full commitment whilst here and are they are truly a credit to your organisation.
